Views

Printed views first appeared in Europe in the mid-1400s. Initially they were produced by relief printing with woodblocks, but soon intaglio printing by engraving or etching copper plates allowed delicate detail to be added, and this was further improved with lithography. These views give us a complete and exceptional view of our world before the invention of photography. These antique prints are original and many are rare, they were skilfully drawn and printed at the time stated often onto strong hand-made paper which has allowed them to endure virtually undamaged to the present day.
